That said, Walmart actually sells what is, IMHO, a superior version for $30 less. Next, it ships with criminally little memory-to the point where you literally won't be able to update the device or even apps because you'll run out of space. Google quickly replaced it under warranty, but it isn't well made. My remote broke after only a few months of use. I do not recommend the Chromecast with GoogleTV that is made by Google. I still have my Roku hooked up, but I only use (which is extremely rare) when I want to access a fringe channel that isn't available on GoogleTV.Ī couple of other salient points. Regardless, both GoogleTV and FireTV have far better smart-home support IMHO. I haven't tried controlling it via my Google Assistant yet. Roku relies on an Alexa Skill (which has poor ratings). Both GoogleTV and FireTV give you direct access to their virtual assistants within the remote and through their various smart home devices.
